Bubba's Sports Bar & Restaurant

Barbados is an island which can sometimes become consumed by sports. Whether cricket, with which 90% of the male and about 30% of the female population have a bittersweet love affair or football, basketball or hockey, everyone follows something. So, would you not expect there to be at least one, maybe more official sports bars?

Bubba's Sports Bar and Restaurant is a fully functional Sports Bar and is ideally and centrally located on Rockley main road at the centre of most of the south coast activity. It carries live sports action and has invested in massive television screens much to the delight of the sports fanatics who frequent the bar and restaurant. One can see major football games, NBA basketball, tennis and even NASCAR and other racing meets.

When there are major games in train or play-offs of any kind, Bubba's is normally packed to capacity. This speaks to its popularity and it is frequented by both locals and visitors alike since it is suitably located along the Barbados south coast hotel stretch. Depending on where one is located it is accessible by car (sometimes its adequate car park is packed to capacity), taxi, bus, or on foot.

The establishment is designed for the comfort of its patrons. Fully air-conditioned, it operates on two levels: a non-smoking level at the top by where you enter and a lower level, where the majority of the screens lie, sometimes affectionately referred to as "the pit”. Open seven days a week all year round with due respect being extended to Christmas Day when the bar and restaurant are closed, Bubba's is a popular destination of choice in Barbados.

In a bar and restaurant, of course one expects to be able to avail of drink and food. At Bubba's, the list of drinks from which one can choose is enviable: wine, beer and stronger spirits of the highest quality. For beer lovers, one can get it by glass or pitcher, just say what you want. Or have a tasty Pina Colada or a fresh fruit punch... somehow they always seem to taste better in Barbados.

Now where does one start with the food? The choice of appetizers is many. At Bubba's, these are referred to as "warm-ups" and one can have items such as samosas or fishcakes (a spicy local delicacy comprising the main ingredient of saltfish or codfish). The latter item is a favourite with most persons who taste them. A variety of soups and salads provide additional and more tempered options for the health-conscious eater. Don't forget the sandwiches.

The menu offers pages of mouth-watering selections. Steak, ribs, chicken pasta, lobster (if available) and as many dishes under each meat or seafood. For example and only an example, there is a flying fish dish served with mushrooms and onions in a white wine sauce or one  can take a turn in the honey barbecue ribs. With so many choices, there is little room for disappointment. But wait… if your children do not appear enthusiastic about the menu, there is also a kid's menu available for your perusal.

Opening hours are:

Monday thru Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Friday 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Sundays 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The difference with Sundays is that it is the only day when Bubba's is open for breakfast, so the starting time is 8 o'clock in the morning, running through to 10:30 a.m. Breakfast is offered buffet style with a sumptuous spread and is in demand every week. You should trek there to try it at least once.

Bubba's can be classified as a one-stop delight combining fun, food and sport. You can have a simple business lunch meeting there or a big old birthday bash... it really does not matter.
