Exchange Museum

Exchange Museum

From the building which houses its interactive galleries to the exhibition galleries themselves, the Exchange Museum, located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Historic Bridgetown, is steeped in Barbadian History. What was once the former home of Harrison's Free School now Harrison's College and a Masonic Temple, stands the largest and most interactive Museum on the island. Visitors can immerse themselves in history through videos, audio recordings and projections, all of which make for an engaging visit for children and adults.

The first-floor galleries take visitors on a journey through time, exploring the unique characteristics of currencies across the globe, celebrating the journey of the Central Bank of Barbados from inception to the present day, and highlighting the importance
of friendly societies like the Barbados Landship. Barbados' new polymer banknotes are also on display in the Currency exhibition at the Exchange.

The second-floor galleries pay homage to the Exchange’s historic 18th-century building, prior to becoming a state-of-the-art Museum. Visit the Education Exhibition to explore a classroom from the 50s and the Freemasonry Exhibition to dispel the myths of the secret society ingrained in Barbadian history.

Daily tours to the Exchange Museum and Walking Tours to historic Bridgetown, Garrison and Speightstown are available and can be booked at your convenience, Monday to Saturday from 9 am until 5 pm. Events can also be facilitated in our audio-equipped gallery space, which would be perfect for an art exhibition, wedding reception, ceremony, lecture, group event or professional gathering.
