History of SunTours BarbadosSunTours Barbados traces its origins back to 1860, when it was named Trotman's Livery Stables. These stables used to hire out their horses and carriages to passengers and crew of the many ships that used Barbados as a stop to and from Europe, The Americas and The Caribbean. After a few years, Mr. Trotman sold the enterprise to J. G. Johnson who changed the name to Johnson's Livery Stable. In 1915, the firm was purchased by a Mr. Edwards who retained the name until 1917, when it was modified to Johnson's Stables & Garage to accommodate the motor cars that were making their appearance. In 1926, U.J. Parravicino or "Poor Bob" as he was known, joined the firm and a couple of years later, purchased it. "Poor Bob" probably is as far from the truth as you can get. He was a man ahead of his time and was involved personally and financially in many local tourism ventures, long before the potential of the industry was realized. He changed the name to Johnson's Stables & Garage Limited in 1937 and has been run through two generations of the Parravacino family. In 2003, Johnson's Stables changed management control and joined the Caribbean World Travel Services group of companies, headed by Chairman, Bernard Weatherhead J.P., which operates various tourism related businesses, including Drive-A-Matic Car Rentals in Barbados and St. Lucia, Going Places Travel in Antigua, Barbados, Bequia, Cariacou, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad, and Dominica, Sandridge Beach Hotel in Barbados, Homar Rentals Ltd. in Barbados, Island Safari in Barbados and Antigua, Forest Safari Barbados, SeaFari in Barbados, Tropical Weddings Barbados, Island Executive Services, Sugar Cane Club Hotel Bar and Restaurant Barbados and Suntours Caribbean in Barbados, Antigua and St. Lucia.
