Picnickers at Barclays Park, East Coast, St. Andrew, Barbados

Barclay's Park

In 1966 (the year of Barbados' indepence) HM Queen Elizabeth opened Barclay's Park in the picturesque parish of St. Andrew. This generous 50 acre donation of rolling hills was given to the Government of Barbados from Barclays Bank International Limited in honour of the island's independence.

Weekends and public holidays are two of the most popular times Bajans and visitors get together on this very popular picnic spot. There's a peaceful feeling that you simply don't want to leave you once you go there. barclays-park-stone2Perhaps it's the constant cooling breeze or maybe the absolute serenity of this place that makes you want to come back for more.

Either way, we can guarantee you that Barclay's Park, with its many picnic tables, is ideal for even laying still and reading your favourite novel.

Not only is Barclay's Park great for picnics, many locals travel to this end of the island on weekends to rent beach houses. These beach houses are strategically located along the coast line and augur well for a relaxing break from the busy world.

On this side of Barbados' coast, the strong currents and powerful waves make the sea too dangerous for swimming but you can wade and look for sea creatures in the numerous rock pools.
