Golden Grove Great House

A visit to Golden Grove Great House unlocks yesterday's look and feel with the modern conveniences of today. Located in the parish of St. Philip, this house is certainly ideal for any size group whether it's a large family, a gathering of friends or a couple, all are well accommodated. Dating as far back as the 17th century and largely rebuilt after the devastating hurricane of 1831, this Great House stands majestic with its original pine floors and hurricane shuttered sash windows. On arrival, one can't help but notice the plethora of vibrant paintings that adorn the thick, strong walls of this Great House.

History teaches us that Golden Grove Terrace’s coral rock has been scientifically dated to c. 220,000 years ago and proof of the Amerindians’ existence there has been found by Three Houses stream. A stream that borders Golden Grove’s well kept gardens. History doesn’t end here as Golden Grove has historic connections to 1816 slave rebellion with leaders of that revolt making their escape to Golden Grove from their nearby base at Bayleys plantation which is just a stone’s throw away.

Another piece of interesting history is the birth of Florence Daysh at Golden Grove in 1908. Florence was born Florence Smith on March 22, 1908 to a white planter and his coloured wife and was one of the leading politicians and philanthropists of her day.

Tropical gardens, uninterrupted solitude and a wealth of history abound at Golden Grove Great House.
